If I recall, this was after he and Liz split in real life, but while they were still a real couple on tv. Imagine going to work everyday and having to pretend to still be married to your ex.

I’m sure he cried a lot during this time, and he’s speaking from the heart. Because even after the split he still cared for Liz. He treated her like his little sister, and was still every bit as protective of her after they weren’t even dating. Even when she was with Lex.

And this interview would have been in the early 90s, at a time when men crying was seen as “Being a sissy”. So I’m sure when he asked that question, he was expecting Macho Man to say something very “of it’s time” like

“NO I DON’T CRY! I’M THE MACHO MAN!!! TOUGHER THAN YOU, TOUGHER THAN EVERYBODY, HEAR ME???”

And at that time, nobody would have batted an eye to a response like that. Instead, Savage lays out some ahead of its time words of wisdom, and if you listen to the audience reaction, it’s the women who are most enthusiastic. I assume because the men are unsure if its ok for them to agree with that statement in the early 90s.
