So, and I mean this genuinely, I think I figured out why AEW hasn’t been clicking for me. It feels much more disjointed, more like a Japanese promotion in my opinion, which makes a lot of sense. The problem arises when I am able to follow the storyline with out the language barrier, and it just feels off to me.
I’m going to continue watching all that I can, and try to stay open minded. I’d love to hear some opinions on this, and clarification if needed. I’m not coming in with blind hatred, just a lack of understanding
I’ll pretty much echo what Travon said. AEW does indeed style themselves after Japanese promotions a good bit (given TK’s big love for NJPW and such), you could say half-n-half US style/JP style. You still get segments, promos, story and such as you would in American wrestling but they also emphasize the story being told through the wrestling more, more ‘just because’ matches instead of requiring story reasons for every match to occur (which I hate lol), having frequent post-match promos (which Japan loves doing) etc.
I’m a big Japanese wrestling guy so after all these years the styles just kinda blend together and you don’t notice it as much 😅, but it’s definitely not just you. Shut the brain off, let it take ya for a ride as far as it can. It’s pro wrestling afterall, give it 2 weeks and stuff flips from ‘everything makes sense’ to ‘what the fuck?!’ regardless of company lol.
Lmao, yeah, this all makes sense. See, my partner and I love the soap opera drama that WWE brings. No one can do it like Lucha Underground though. Telenovela perfection
Yeah it’s alot less like WWE, which has its own “universe” and feels more like a TV show with a central plot season to season
AEW is literally all of the “Elites”, a super Indy. With that being said, alot of the storytelling is in the ring through the characters and less on segments. We won’t necessarily get everyone on TV every week even if they are involved in a feud/storyline.
Yes, that is it exactly! WWE and even TNA feel like cohesive television shows.
Do you have any suggestions for how to enjoy it more? I get that is kind of an absurd question, but gathering different point of views can help me to see it in a different way. Right now I just kind of turn my brain off and watch wrestling
Sadly no, I have a pretty good memory so alot of the matches at least make sense to me.
Turning off your brain somewhat and just enjoying wrestling is probably the best way. Pick your favorites and hope they get some decent TV time to showcase themselves. Besides that, I don’t really follow NJPW so seeing the clash of styles or differing stories of each match is great.
Awesome, thanks for the response!
I did not expect Dustin to be a double champ in 2024, fuck lol.
It was nice of Jack Perry to give that dead guy his title to be buried with, what a class act that man has become!
Announcer: “And his opponent, from DallasSingles.com, Orion!”
Tony: “…did she say DallasSingles.com???”Shoot your shot, dear enhancement tal…I shouldn’t say enhancement when referencing a dating joke…guess I shouldn’t have put shoot your shot either…hmm…shit.
Fuck are we getting a Trios TLC match?
😂😂😂 Eddie coming back for a veiled Bryan Danielson pep talk is not what I had in mind
I don’t really keep up with ROH but I liked the Undisputed Kingdom as tag champs. If not, just because Taven and Bennett are endearing goobers to me
I like em in a vacuum. Zero complaints about em really, they’re good hands, solid midcarders, just not a big fan of them as a while compared to others. If I’m on the fence about going to a show, seeing Taven/Bennett is not gonna be a deciding factor to make me wanna go let’s say that.
That being said I have less problem doing this stuff than doing stuff partnered up with Roddy/Adam/Wardlow. As a tag team, zero issues. Toss em in with the others and everyone is weighing everyone down (imo).
These guys were great 12 years ago. Taven with Truth Martini was one of the funnest things about ROH.
I’ve always thought Bennett was a bit throwaway, but still fun.
I don’t think they’re offering much in 2024.
Big Stoke ain’t a killer but don’t push him
