Yeah, I had the same issue. Sometimes it was the SD card, sometimes the network interface (not your case obviously), sometimes things connected to USB, sometimes it was running hot… I gave up and now I just run everything on an older Slimbook Zero. Yes, power consumption is higher (still pretty low) but so is stability.

It’s not for you to decide based on arbitrarily chosen data points. If Linus says he’s Finnish (another commenter said he does) then that’s it. Also, think how strange it is to insist that someone has one ethnicity or another. Categorizing people like that based on their genes or language is sooo previous century. Your understanding of the concept of nationality seems very basic. There are many different minorities in different countries and sometimes they will identify solely as citizens of this minorities (like Russians in Latvia for example), sometimes they will identify as citizens of the country in which they were born and raised (like some minorities in USA) and sometimes both (like other minorities in USA). The fact that Linus speaks Swedish doesn’t mean anything and he doesn’t even hold Swedish citizenship AFAIK. He holds Finnish and American citizenships so unless you can show me his statements claiming he’s Swedish your arguments here are pointless.
Not to argue about a joke but Linux was ‘better’ because it was free, not because it was technically better. By the time it got actually better than UNIX tons of people have worked on it, not just couple of drunk guys. I think someone just misread what the article says and missed the ‘not’ in ‘need not be expensive’. But if people find it funny it’s cool, it’s not for me to judge anyone’s sense of humour.

I don’t get it. The article says that hardware is 1974 was expensive but UNIX was cheap to develop. Linus developing Linux just confirms what they are saying. Is the joke that computers used to be expensive and now they are cheap?

I’m not saying we should just ignore it. I’m saying that it took the time it took (a decade) for Wayland to become a thing because most people don’t need it. Some people do and it’s not getting traction but most people can still safely ignore it.
1.6% of gamers use Linux. 25% of developers use Linux. Typical tech enthusiast is not gamer. Just because in your bubble people use VRR doesn’t mean it’s important to majority of users. Most Linux users don’t care.
That’s why it doesn’t make sense arguing about it with Wayland fans. They always find this one obscure feature that X is missing and then claim it’s absolutely essential for everyone to have it. Most people have just one monitor, two equal/similar monitors, a handheld device with one screen or (and that’s the vast majority) simply don’t give a fuck that one of their monitors is working on a lower refresh rate. I’m glad Wayland finally found some traction with gamers obsessed with those things and is being adopted but the constant BS about everyone needing it is getting boring.
Sorry, I used the term “fad” to make a pun on X flaws being a ‘FUD’ (haha). It’s not a fad in the sense that it will soon disappear. What I meant is that the excitement around it is not funded in actual benefits and it just recently became fashionable to support it.

I don’t mind Wayland but I sure hope flatpack will not become the default way to distribute packages. Most packages I tried so far didn’t work. I just avoid it now.
First of all, X is not a security nightmare. There were 0 cases of someone getting hacked because of X exploit. It’s a FUD.
Now Wayland is a fad (haha). It’s not that much better than X and when it was drafted 10 years ago everyone just ignored it. Over the decade it became clear that X is stuck and at some point it will become obsolete so people started looking at alternatives and Wayland started getting some traction. Over time different tools started getting Wayland support, some people started getting exited about it and a kind of new meme developed where using Wayland meant that you’re ahead of everyone else (just like using Arch BTW). In the end it’s just a nice PR stunt. Ask people what specifically is so great about Wayland and they will mention some obscure features most people don’t need and features that it will have ‘soon’. In the long term the move will hopefully be a good thing but as of now if you don’t specifically need the few features it has you can keep ignoring it.
Get some live distro first and check it out without installation. You will be able to test some basic desktop environments very easily. Most of the distros will have live image. Even better run it in a virtual machine and play around. Test KDE, Gnome, Cinnamon and XFCE. Look at some themes and plugins. I think customizing your desktop is a nice, visual way to see how flexible it all is and get the feel of how configuration files work. If you will like what you can achieve with a bit of work you will just keep going. If you will find it ‘stupid and useless’ it’s probably not for you.
That’s what virtualization is for.
