I keep thinking that I’ll install flow meter with my Rachio system so that I can catch leaks. Irrigation systems kind of like classic cars - they require constant maintenance, and shit often breaks. And since I water at night, I often miss major leaks until it’s too late.

As for valve covers, your best bet is just to Google stuff and do some image or shopping searches. Most are pretty ugly, but some fake rocks and fake logs exist.

I ended up burying mine. It’s a pain in the ass, but it’s the price I’m willing to pay to not hear my wife complain about a fiberglass box.

The sealant is supposed to be that way. You’re supposed to bend the aluminum to the match the roof, put a bead of caulk under the boot, put screws at the major fold lines, and put a bead of caulk around the edge for extra protection.

I don’t know if the installer put the first bead on, but the screws are basically in the right places and the that finishing bead is there.

The problem might be because the installer installed this at a 45 degree angle. That’s not something I normally see. That forces the big bend to be on a corner.

I’d probably start by looking

For something like this, if probably hit up YouTube and search metal roof + roof boot or pipe flashing

Two potential options.

And that said, when I’ve had problems with flashing and my roof, the best thing to do is to get into the attic while someone pours water in specific areas. That’s the fastest way to know what specifically needs to be fixed.

That is the right boot for that job. That said, the install is not the most attractive I’ve seen.

If you want to put another boot on top of that, look for “ag panel roof boot” on Google. There are some larger boots that could sit on top of that thing.

I might look for an installation manual for this. Most companies post them online.

I’d probably also add some Brad nails or staples so that it’s not just glue.

Probably some sort of gate valve to shut off water to the unit. The crusty white ring at the pipe fitting is mineral buildup that can happen in plumbing.

The mineral build up can either be from natural condensation that occurs when it’s cool, or the fitting might not be, or might not have been, 100% water tight. As long as you’re not seeing significant water on the floor, you’re fine.

It also looks like there is a little old white paint or sealant on the valve.

IMHO, the other part of the problem is that spicy hot-takes quickly get engagement from other users and bubble up to the top. And a lot of those spicy comments are trash, but not in violation of rules, so mods leave them up.

The hood should have some sort of vent to the outside of the home. Do you have that?
