As a somewhat Linux noob I just made a folder called ~/Apps and launch them through terminal. Not ideal, but I don’t care enough to fix it.

Your suggestion makes me kinda want to fix it though. Doesn’t seem like to much work

Makes sense, I kinda like it from a distributor standpoint. Flatpak is my favorite though.

Why the hate part of AppImage?

I have really started to like AppImage. You just download a single file make it executable and it just works.

I use Cursor for coding, and it has an appimage that replaces itself when it updates.

Free as in freedom, not only free as in beer. That is how FOSS works. Also one of the things I find appealing about it.

By focusing on FOSS being this super serious thing, we kinda lose what is great about it. Everyone is welcome and free to use it as they see fit. That is by design (see licenses). A lot of FOSS is passion projects by people on their spare time, they do it because it is fun / fulfilling. We need all hands on deck, and FOSS should also be playful, experimental, and novel. FOSS is this super idealistic gift to humanity, from humanity. Every piece of FOSS software contributes to the collective human database of ideas and software.

The “us reasonable users” is a really unfortunate way of sharing your opinion on this matter. Is it unreasonable to be a femboy and use FOSS/Linux? By being elitist like this, I kinda get the same reaction you claim to get from this user. I don’t want to be clumped in with the users that feel they are superior to everyone else and acting like it, and gatekeeping the FOSS community and its representation.

I have about thirty Aqara sensors that work with the Zigbee dongle for Homeassistant. I just pressed the sync button on the Aqara sensor and it shows up in my HA when I try to add a new Zigbee device.

I can confirm that the magnet sensor, temperature/ humidity sensor and vibration sensors work without an Aqara hub, and directly with the HA ZigBee dongle.
