  • I recently ran into a bug in the latest version of cmake that breaks it completely in my system, can’t compile shit and it just does a coredump.

What is worse is that I can’t even report the bug because I can’t get the registration email from the cmake gitlab. I checked the manjaro repos and their cmake version is 2 versions older than the one that has the bug that left me thinking for a while lol.

  • I’ve used a few appimages for limited cases - BalenaEtcher to burn HomeAssistant on to SD cards for my Raspberry Pi, and I think the scanning software I use is also an AppImage. The idea of having the libraries and binaries all together for certain things is a good one for certain cases

This very much, I use an appimage for gimp because I’m not fucking putting GTK2 in my system lol.

Also if steam came as an appimage with the 32bit libs and a patched glibc it would be amazing, it would save so many headaches for everybody, one can only wish though.

Also they support a portable home, so steam can be on a different partition with all the games and its own user files independent of the distro/home you are using.

  • Sway can’t set my 3 displays as extended like I can with i3 with xorg.

Also I recently wanted to try to record on OBS with sway to rule out an issue that I have with my AMD card with colors, and I wasn’t able to get OBS to work, installed xdg-desktop-portal-wlr, set the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=sway environment variable and didn’t work.

Also for some reason my xfce4 apps are ignoring my xdg base dir variables (I have config and cache inside ~/.local) when using either sway or hyprland and that results in issues with my theming and the creation of the .config and .cache dirs in home again, what is weird is that it only happens with the xfce apps.

EDIT: I was able to test OBS on hyprland instead of sway and the issue with the colors is still present even on wayland.

I didn’t know flatpak was using MB instead of MiB, ever since I moved to linux most apps I’ve used report MiB instead.

Edit: I checked my CLI tools because the guy said that CLI tools are all over the place, the only one that doesn’t use MiB is lf.

Edit2: I lost my shit when I checked the profile of patrick and the first thing in the description says gnome developer, holy shit this can’t be lmao.
