GPLs “restrictions” are freedom preserving though. It only restricts developers from keeping dirivitive code proprietary. In order to violate the GPL you’d have to choose to use GPL code and then choose not to release your modified versions of it under a similar copyleft license. It may seem counterintuitive, but having those restrictions results in more software freedom overall - similar to the paradox of intolerance.
I’m not saying MIT or so called permissive licenses are bad, but the permissive/restrictive language is just as loaded as the OPs suggestions. Both styles are needed, but copyleft licenses are better at promoting software freedom.
Edit: I do agree with you that LGPL serves an important role in promoting free/libre software where it would otherwise would never be used.
How would you get through the install though? Are there any simple solutions without any graphics output?
What if I’ve never built a headless system and am afraid of not having easy access to a GUI?
Thanks for the response! I’ve had my eye on these Onn devices for a while but haven’t looked into any of that stuff yet. I need to replace this old pi3 soon though because I’m tired of dealing with it not decoding h265. The new Onn ones even support AV1 from what I’ve heard.
Has anyone done a deep dive to know for sure that it isn’t full of spyware and bloat? I’m weary of anything I can’t flash a new OS to. Or maybe they can be loaded up with a different community maintained OS?
Doesn’t Trash Guides prefer larger files though? Iirc if you just do everything as they recommend you’ll always be grabbing the highest quality stuff available, which is the opposite of what this person wants.
I switched to BTRFS recently, but found myself even more fucked when my system stopped working suddenly and I didn’t know how to fix it without reformatting and installing grub again. Actually lost even more than I would have otherwise just because I wasn’t knowledgeable enough to get any form of recovery to work. That first EndeavourOS install didn’t last 2 months sadly.
They both got silver if I’m not mistaken
