    Every driver you could possibly need for any hardware in the last 20 years? This is a live CD and is expected to just work no matter what you’re running it on.

    Edit: Also, of course, every program you might need to usefully test-drive a distro, like office apps, media players, image viewers, browser, email client, and a myriad more. Now that I’ve said it I find 6GB remarkably small.










  • It’s actually a technical term in language theory – a term that cannot be produced by the language, but is still considered part of the ‘universe’ (i.e., the set of all terms) is called ‘garbage’ or ‘junk’.

    Since I can’t find a source online to verify this claim, this might just have been the case in my courses…

    I find this a highly interesting problem. How do you measure how much CPU time a program needs? The OS has ceded its control of the CPU to the program. Does it just look at the clock after it’s in charge again to derive a program’s load?

    While we’re at it: How does the OS even yank the CPU away from the currently running process?
