I thought discord streaming was so dumb until I was trying to reach my friend something in a game. Now we use it a couple times per month, it’s great. I hate that I like Discord lol

Sure, I just figured if it worked well with 8 it would work well with 4 + 1 unoptimized stream. If it doesn’t work, I can just spend $40 on a coral
I was planning on an Intel CPU that was recommended when I was putting my list together which I was told could handle detection up on to 8 cameras without issue (so I could skip the Coral all together)
Ahh gotcha, didn’t consider that! I’ll have to make sure my processor is up for the task. I think it will be…I’m doing 4 cameras + doorbell max and buying a NUC
Are you running them with Frigate? I was thinking the lack of substream wouldn’t be a problem because the frigate server could downscale if needed (but I haven’t really looked into it yet)
I thought Reolink cameras were just rebranded Amcrest…or is it just the chips and lenses?
I will be using them with Frigate so I’m not too worried about the janky software unless it affects how Frigate operates
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll keep them on my list. I wasn’t considering the PTZ cameras just the inexpensive turrets and plan on running them PoE so it looks like those issues won’t affect me!
I thought the doorbell camera worked great with frigate, is that not the case? I don’t have a need for cameras yet but that was on my shopping list…all cameras will be on a locked down vlan so it’s fine if it TRIES to phone home if it still works “offline”
Amcrest gets recommended a lot but I have no personal experience with them
Just to make sure I’m on the same page…the pin that connects the two hinge plates is coming out on its own?
You can try taking the pin out and lightly hammering the middle knuckle so it’s pinches the pin more. Alternatively, hammer a slight bend in the pin.
They also make pins that go through the hinges and screw on
I did not install SANs, I built racks for AV so the only drives were NAS/mini PCs on shelves
Absolutely on that point. Same goes for heavy multi zone amplifiers.
Man I loved building racks. Almost makes me miss field work…
Back when I built racks, our “standard” was UPS at the bottom, all drives at the top…but mainly for accessibility. Hadn’t even thought about vibrations or interference!
Now that’s the realistic answer I was looking for, thanks! Open source is really the only reason I want to switch. I bought the lifetime Plex pass like a decade ago so the cost doesn’t bother me. The lack of mobile sync is a bummer though
But they said it’s so much better and keeps on giving. I assumed they meant feature-wise
I plan on switching regardless but let’s say I was on the fence… Aside from it not being owned by a for-profit company, why is Jellyfin better than Plex?
I think it gets a pass. The only way for software to have soul is if its icon doesn’t indicate what the software does in any way.
Probably that it’s perfect and full of soul
Soul is when cartoon animal
I agree with everything you said except the paragraph about how to DIY it.
OP, do not DIY this. If you do, you now have two problems to worry about -
You have no idea how to fix it AND no idea what a successful repair even looks like
It will come up in the inspection when you sell. DIY foundation repairs are always noticeable and will raise a ton of questions. I backed out of two houses because the report called them out. You can’t see what’s going on behind the “repair” to know if it’s actually repaired
