Nah desktop mothership, server star command and laptop UFO.
I feel like UFO would make more sense for laptop due to it being portable, but I get it is because the desktop is Alienware
Perhaps rather than saying it’s stupid, you can just say “it’s not for me” as I stated I’ve been a long term Linux user, installing everything from Arch to Void, I even did a brief stint using LFS, I enjoy Linux however I prefer macOS, but I don’t go around saying I hate Linux because I don’t there is nothing wrong with it, i just prefer the way macOS works and that is a preference.
Likely macOS is just not the correct choice for you.
Use Opencore. Apple stopping support for older devices makes logical sense, technology progresses, maintaining legacy devices can become tedious and leaves the team with less time to focus on their current devices and versions.
Opencore allows you to update to the latest version of macOS even if not supported. However be aware that it isn’t Apple certified but an open source project so your mileage may vary.
For your final point the Mac’s I have used have been incredibly capable machines that I’ve been able to configure endlessly and run a large variety of languages and tools without many issues. They have sane defaults, are configurable, powerful and they run smoothly.
As a Linux user who moved to Mac, it’s not even remotely dumb.
I recommend not using the installer if you want to learn how Linux works well.
I think Arch is a good distro to learn for new users who are interested in tech, it gives an amazing example of good documentation and teaches you a lot about how UNIX-Like filesystems work.
That being said for non-technical users with zero interest, my main recommendations are Mint if you are coming from or prefer Windows and Elementary if you’re coming from or prefer Mac.
c/unixsocks and c/unixporn seem to be rather trans dense populations as well.
Most Mac users I’ve encountered aren’t like this… One or two can be, I see just as much if not more elitism in the Linux community
Not my expectations, the user who posted above me. I fully understand part of the reason macOS is so good is because it’s the only OS they focus on.
Where are you getting a $300 m1
Honestly the only issues I run into on macOS are things that I’m probably doing to waste time anyway, like enable some random feature or setting that might be useful 1 in 1000 use cases and when that use case rolls around I’d have forgotten about the feature and end up doing it manually anyway.
I mean if we were talking accurately the public bought the crown for him in the case of Apple.
Linux, they want to be able to put Linux on it without sacrificing any performance or battery life. You can put Linux on it (Asahi Linux) but it will likely never be as performant and efficient as macOS solely because the teams at apple work incredibly well together, they know the system inside and out, they know what its capable of running at and how far it can be pushed or how much can be placed on the efficiency cores etc.
Nah I was quite literally born with the name mac… Literally on my birth certificate that way.
I agree JS doesn’t require as much technical knowhow.
Maybe he knew none of the information could harm him if someone got hold of it?
