I too have no idea what this is about. I never used tailscale, and I have no idea what immich is.

But perhaps your problem is that the app expects to be on the root? Perhaps that could be a problem. Can you instead do another sub-domain level like immich.pcname.tail$$$$$.ts.net? Or does the app (immich) allow you to set URL root?

Anyway, seems that may indeed be the issue, and also that tailscale cannot do those sub-domains as I thought based on the discussion I found. It seems this is the same issue: https://github.com/immich-app/immich/discussions/1679

Again, I have no idea what Immich even is in the first place, Tailscale, I just know it exists. Consider me about as useful as AI, I just did some googling, with only prior info being that I had to set base URL in both kiwix-serve and Navidrome for them to work properly under a directory or whatever the part after slash is called.

I don’t like installing software that doesn’t need to be installed, thus I like AppImage. Pretty portable. That also applies to compiling from source. Yes, my home directory is a mess.

Yes, but requirements for a general use computer have barely changed in the past 10 years. Well, the only thing changing them is Windows 11.

I’ve used a 2007 mid-range (?) laptop up until it broke in early 2023. Core 2 Duo T7100 (later upgraded to T7500 bought on AliExpress for €1), 4GB of DDR2 RAM, GeForce 8600M GT, cheap 128GB SATA SSD (also from AliExpress). Perfectly usable with Linux Mint. For fun I put Windows 11 on it with Superfetch and BITS services disabled. Perfectly usable with that as well. The only game I tried on it was Asphalt 8 though, but it ran smoothly.

I want to get something like that again, but with support for more RAM. 4GB was the maximum.

“Old laptop” has a Core 2 Duo and 4GB of DDR2 RAM.

It also has a better keyboard with plenty of travel, on-the-go replaceable battery, easily accessible components likely to get replaced/upgraded/cleaned, large cooler, large selection of I/O, has higher likelihood to survive 2 more years than a brand new laptop and it can be used as a weapon or anchor.

Plot twist: The right side is actually just Linux furries having Vim vs Emacs and X11 vs Wayland debate/fight.

I know, I used to use an SSD with a different laptop. But it doesn’t bother me enough, especially since I reboot it like once a month.

1. I am a cheapskate

2. I am too lazy to replace it (one of those modern hard to open laptops)

3. I am too lazy to test and clone a 1TB (or more) drive

I actually used an SSD before with an old laptop, but that only required removing 2 screws. As for cleaning out dust, I don’t use it much anyway, mainly because I don’t want to deal with cracking this open.

I am just looking at getting some used ThinkPad.
But anyway, most stuff can be done on a smartphone. On the other hand, I already killed 1 motherboard likely due to overheating while re-encoding videos to AV1 in Termux. It was replaced under warranty both times though. The second time it was just some issue with communicating with cameras. Yeah, I am on this phone’s 3rd motherboard.

But anyway, it’s a laptop. I reboot it like once a month when updating, so it’s not a big deal.
