Hello you beautiful people!
It was one year ago that the Reddit Apocalypse™ occurred. On June 9th 2023 gloomchen and AKittyCat (two of SQ’s long-time Reddit/Discord mods) set up a new home for us away from Spez and the rest of the flaming garbage dump. It wasn’t always smooth (given everything we had to deal with on kbin, which for the record doesn’t seem to have changed much if at all lol) but we’ve managed to flourish and keep growing bit by bit (and with a minimal amount of bans or deletions too!)
Thanks all for coming along for the ride. If I had a salmon jacket I’d do a fake retirement bit here but ya know~

I honestly think he only stuck it out with Kbin because he got made a mod. Neither of us volunteered. The reason AKittyCat picked us was we were the 2 most active users there, and he was nominated by other users because he was already posting the discussion threads. Still shocked to this day that I was chosen in the first place, but I wouldn’t change anything, tbh.

Just a general FYI, but using the new t.lemmy.zip interface breaks the spoiler tags if you put them in the body of a created topic. Specifically the little bit you can see before opening a topic, once you open the thread it works as intended.

Kbin is still a dumpster fire, it’s down 99% of the time when I try and go to the microblog, one of its top topics in the last couple of days was something along the lines of “Holy shit, I could log in.”
I saw talk of Tellum and I’m not sure what outside of Microblog and SquaredCircle Tellum was using, but most of that can be fulfilled elsewhere with much less hassle and without coming to Lemmy, which has a not so great rep thanks to some servers… I like you Zip, not so much World, not at all Beehaw.
The Microblog is what I miss most from Kbin, because I really never warmed to Mastodon or BlueSky.
Why is Beehaw catching strays… because it rhymes with all.
Good ol Beehaw, the first sign up I ever made on the Fediverse and the first Fediverse account I closed when they did nothing but make me feel unwelcome for daring to step foot in their instance which they purposely chose to make on a federated software open to everyone who wanted to sign up because I didn’t do so a month earlier and was thus a ‘dirty redditor’ lmao.

That shit is honestly cancerous, popularity is by far the worst metric for anything remotely approaching quality, and nielsen ratings are not even good proxies for that.
like probably 90% of the people watching wrestling probably don’t even watch tradition tv anyway
It’s such a nonsensical point too, some of the best wrestling I’ve seen is in Stardom and TJPW, which have crowds in the thousands and no tv deals in the US. If ratings meant anything other than “old people watch this” there would be a very different breakdown there.
Got rid of my own tv service November 2009, wouldnt be surprising.
